A Youtube commercial for ArTex Funding.

Created with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects.

I did a google image search on “jigsaw puzzle” and downloaded and outline image.

I already had an “Artex” logo from the many other projects I have made for them.

I put the Artex logo on one layer. And the Jigsaw outline on a second layer.

I would use the magic want selector tool on  each “puzzle piece” then “paint” whatever piece of the logo was under neath.

This youtube commercial played before a video I wanted to see.

Normally, this annoys me.

But the “behind the scenes” footage of the making of the stop motion movie  CORALINE was fascinating to me.

I did a youtube search on some of the words used in this video until I found the Laika / 3D printer commercial.

The did SOME sculpting, but most of the replacement faces were done with a 3D printer.

I love seeing the odd but brilliant ways they made the stop motion animation.

Mixing old tech hand moved stop animation and modern film technology.

This is a youtube commercial I produced for Jamie Johnson Insurance in San Antonio, Texas.

Written by Jamie Johnson and Viviane Maguire of Viv-Design.

The voice over was done by Matthew Kordelski.

Will Vinton R.I.P.

Died: October 4, 2018
The greatest innovator in American stop motion has unfortunately passed on.
I can remember seeing ads for his ” Rip Van Winkle” movie on HBO ( at my cousins house). I was so happy when I got to see it, it is such a strange and amazing movie.
Vinton went on to what i assume was financial success with his “California Raisins” commercials and TV specials in the 80s.  ( I wonder if they actually sold more raisins because of those commercials?).
A lot of MTV’s videos had his animation in them. I say “his” even though Im sure he had dozens, if not hundreds, of assistants at times.
The amazing stop motion movie ” Coraline” was made by the LAIKA company, which was the remnants of Will Vintons old animation company. I don’t know the whole story, apparently Phil Knight, the owner of NIKE sneakers, invested in Vinton productions and for some reason pushed Will himself out and put his (Knights) son in charge.
I feel bad for Will Vinton in that regard, but theres no denying that CORALINE was amazing and I’m glad it was financed and released.
