Dealey Plaza Dallas, Nov 22, 2024

Two years in a row…?

Here are some video clips of the goings on in Dealey Plaza ( Dallas, Texas) to commemorate the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.

I disagree with many of the things said and done today ( November 22, 2024,) but remembering President Kennedy will always be a good thing.

Saint Mary’s Univ Christmas Tree, unlit….

www.mattkprovideo.com/2024/11/23/saint-marys-univ-christmas-tree-unlit/

Raw uncut footage of the Christmas tree installed at Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio by GLO-GEEKS light installers.

I will be doing color corrections and will slow down most of these shots in the finished commercial.

This will probably be used with newer footage I will shoot in December after the tree’s lights are turned on. A “before and after.”

Gasoline/ flare gun attack thwarted at US capitol

Gasoline/ flare gun attack thwarted at US Capitol Building.

This first clip is, of course, not my video, but from a TV newscast:

My group of history buffs was scheduled to visit the US Capitol on Nov 5th, 2024.

As we were about to enter the building, SOMETHING happened.

I didn’t see everything but one of our group says he caught glimpses of somebody being stopped by security because he smelled of gasoline.

I wanted to get video of it but security was ordering us to leave. Not in the mood to be arrested. I obeyed and turned around.

I grabbed some video as we walked away. I held my iPhone over my head, backwards, to grab whatever shot I could.

I kept shooting video from various angles, hoping I would get a shot of SOMETHING…

I got footage of lots of extra Police /Security officers showing up. I got a shot of some kind of Police dog. BUT….. nothing very dramatic happened.

It turns out that some kook tried to bring containers of gasoline and a flare gun into the Capitol Building. One of the security guards smelled something off about this person and detained him. I don’t know much else about what happened next.

This is from a Detroit area newscast:

From the “justice.gov” website:

www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/federal-charges-michigan-man-who-attempted-enter-us-capitol-flare-gun-torch-and-gasoline

“WASHINGTON – Austin M. Olson, 27, of Westland, Michigan, had an initial appearance in U.S. District Court this afternoon, following his November 5, 2024 attempt to enter the U.S. Capitol with a flare gun, a torch, and two bottles of gasoline. Olson was charged in a complaint with unlawful activities for carrying a weapon or incendiary device on Capitol grounds.

U.S. Capitol Police officers arrested Olson on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. At about 12:30 p.m., Olson entered the complex and was asked to remove his belongings for inspection in a security x-ray machine. When Olson’s black coat passed through the x-ray machine, an officer saw what appeared to be a torch and a small firearm. The officer recovered a small torch device and an orange flare gun from the coat. Officers also noted that Olson’s small backpack reeked strongly of gasoline. Inside the backpack, officers found two bottles filled with fuel.

According to the USCP officer, Olson stated he was at the Capitol to send a message to Congress and that he had brought the torch and flare gun to “light up the message in fire.” Another officer asked Olson what message he was planning to deliver. Olson removed a red closed envelope from under his shirt and stated it contained the message he wanted to send to the members of Congress. USCP officers handcuffed Olson and patted him down for additional contraband. Olson refused to provide identification.

Due to the strong odor of fuel emitting from Olson and his bag, USCP closed the Capitol Visitor Center. It reopened about 90 minutes later.

Officers searched Olson’s belongings and recovered two booklets containing writings and an identification card. Olson was charge with unlawful activities, possession of a prohibited weapon, and disorderly conduct and transported to USCP headquarters.

This investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Capitol Police. It is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alexander Schneider and Rachel Craft of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.  “

Later that day out group WAS finally allowed into the Capitol Building.

Is this YouTube show too good to be true?

I’ve been enjoying a YouTube show about the history of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.
It seems to be made by two 2 very knowledgeable SNL superfans. There doesn’t seem to be ANYTHING these don’t know about their favorite show.

Everything You NEED to Know About SNL

We’ve all met the type. There isn’t much superfans of something can’t tell you from memory about shows like STAR TREK or whatever else…

Its interesting and engaging and VERY well put together.

SO well put together that it has sparked a benign low level conspiracy theory in my head.

The show is so well produced, has high quality 4K footage from SNL’s earliest days. At first I thought that they were such devoted fans that they had every episode on VHS or DVD and that they “ripped” the source material and edited into their show.
And that may be the truth. BUT, they seem to have footage from episodes ( that I don’t think) was ever released on home video. And you can’t “rip” material from a professional streaming service, can you? I can’t think of how somebody could “rip” materal off of something like PEACOCK. But where there’s a will there might be a way…
And if that was the case, wouldn’t PEACOCK send them a cease and desist?

Using copyrighted material on YouTube is a confusing, slippery slope. If I owned the rights to SNL’s reruns and found out somebody had made an elaborate love letter to my property, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But that’s me, we’ve all heard of copyright attorneys coming after content creators with a hammer. Maybe because they HAVE to? If they let something slip past, it weakens their claim to ownership? (“Why are you coming after ME when you didn’t go after them??”).

Every episode of this YouTube show ends with saying “SNL’s reruns are viewable on Peacock.”

I didn’t know that. I have PEACOCK and didn.t know they were streaming the earliest SNL episodes. So I clicked on Peacock and started perusing the crude ( in every sense of the word) early episodes. Some of it was better than I remember, some it has not aged well.

I spend more time on YouTube these days than regular TV or even streaming. I assume a lot of us do. I wouldn’t have known to click on PEACOCK to see SNL re-runs if not for this YouTube show made by these superfans.

BUT! a lightbulb went off over my head!

Have I been tricked? Was that YouTube show made by Superfans a ruse? A hidden commercial made BY Peacock itself???

How else would those guys get such extremely high quality footage from episodes that ( I don’t think) were ever released on home video?

The camera and sound quality are both top notch. As good as anything on regular professional TV- let alone YouTube. Their opening and closing graphics were also of professional caliber. Not that some YouTubers don’t put their heart and soul into making pro grade content, many do. But this is a cut above.

Does anyone know if “Everything You NEED to Know About SNL” is being produced by PEACOCK itself or if it really is made by fans who happen to be damn good at what they do?
