The “window guy” at Esthers…

I met him almost two decades ago . I can’t really say I was “friends” with him, but I would see him and say hi almost every Thursday Friday Saturday when I would park my pedicab at the Velveeta Room.
The timing of this was such that I would happen to be strutting past the Esthers window right when Ray Anderson would make a joke about whatever passerby happened to be going past the big windows. For almost a year or so it was almost always me he would joke “Oklahoma must be empty tonight”…
It was supposed to be for random tourists but dumb luck would have me at the window at just the right time. I wasn’t planning it but it just kept working out that way. Jerome would always joke “hey oklahoma!” when he’d see me….
Esthers and Ray had worked Jerome into a regular character that would strut past the window on cue.
Sad that such a regular part of my life is now gone. Can you mourn and miss someone you didn’t really know? I think I can and I think I will.
