I thought the SCREAM movies were awful. Cute clean well lit movies that had a “made for TV movie” feel. Its like they decided to steal from “real” horror movies and make them safe and appealing to non horror fan people. They made a ton of money and have a huge fan base – so what do I know?
Many movies from the 70s and early 80s were scarier because they were so cheaply done, real lighting, real locations and they were scarier because they felt real. Spielberg/Hooper’s POLTERGEIST is a great sci fi movie but it looks too good ( too artificial) for me to buy into it as a scary horror movie.
BUT! I have noticed that in the post SCREAM era, there has been a backlash against “nice clean horror” Filmmakers have been making raw dirty bloody horror movies again- and that is something horror fans should applaud. The remake of EVIL DEAD and” Evil Dead Rise” comes to mind. I know I’m in the minority but “BABADOOK” really got to me! All that said, I saw a horror short on YouTube a while ago that impressed the heck out of me:
They did a feature length remake that just didn’t do it for me. Its ok, but not as good as the short. Also, I recently saw a feature horror film that is the cleverest freshest bit of horror filmmaking I’ve seen in a long time. Its set in a high school with a mostly teenage case- which normally annoys me, but this really worked. Clever , new story, clever filmmaking…..
12:40) The 214 W. Neeley Street house in the Dallas suburb of Oak Cliff, where Marina Oswald (allegedly) took the infamous “Backyard Photos” of Lee Harvey Oswald wearing a pistol and holding a rifle.
( I believe she did, she still SAYS she did- but there are doubters).
13.16) The corner of Tenth and Patton, site of the shooting of Dallas Patrol Officer J.D. Tippit.
14.07) The Dallas Police Officers Association has a replica of the J.D Tippit squad car.
Note, the DPA is on private property, its not a public park. You have to ask to visit it. They rarely say no buts its good to ask ahead.
15.05) A memorial service in Dealey Plaza on November 22, 2023. They gave speeches in remembrances of President Kennedy, had a moment of silence in his honor and had a trumpter blow taps in his honor.
I don’t agree with much of what the speakers said, but I support a JFK memorial and I respect their right to their opinions.
NOTE!
19:11) Robert Groden, one of the worlds most prolific conspiracy theory authors, saw the Zapruder film before the public did. He has studied it for decades, and he is sure it has NOT been altered.
Special Thanks to the fine folks at “Gone Droning” for letting me use their footage!
20:50) the TEXAS THEATER in Oak Cliff where Oswald was arrested.
