I put my coffee mug in front of a “blue screen” (a piece of blue construction paper!)
Then I took the footage into Adobe After Effects. I used the pen tool to isolate the mug and the parts of the image that weren’t blue.
Then I used after effects> keying and took out the rest of the blue screen.
I improved the look of the footage with adjustment layers of “Brightness/Contrast” “Auto Color” and Hue/Saturation.
After the footage was isolated and keyed out, I rendered just the mug with an alpha channel ( Render setting> QuickTime>Animation, “RGB plus Alpha”.
I took that pre rendered shot and added more contrast and grain. with fake cigarette smoke layered behind and in front of the coffee mug.
The video layer was a 3D element and I put the camera on a null object and I moved the Null object around to give it fake camera shake.
